Short Valentine Poems

short valentine poems

Short Valentine poems that are just the right size for a card, love note, text message, or (if you write really small) cake decoration. I suppose you could also spell them out with chocolates or rose petals if you wanted to, but that might be a bit much.

Here’s one that proposes a mutually-beneficial arrangement. Who knows what could happen?

Misery Loves Company, But Happiness Gets to Dance
By Tom Mulhern

Will you come with me to the sweetheart dance?
If you say yes, then there might be a chance
That instead of just sitting on the sideline
We'll each get to dance with a special Valentine.

A short Valentine poems offering for those who have learned the hard way that the Valentine flame may not burn for long.

Not Such Great Expectations
By Tom Mulhern

Today please be my Valentine
And I promise not to whine
When we get to the part
Where you leave and break my heart.

Sometimes short Valentine poems have to bend the rules of grammar in order to be sufficiently succinct. This next one is a case in point.

First Choice
By Tom Mulhern

A heart-shaped box and a red, red rose
Small gifts I hope my love for you shows
And I don't care if the whole world knows
You're the very best Valentine anyone could have chose.

This may come as a surprise, but limericks provide a great format for funny Valentines Day poems. Here’s one that requires a bit of participation on your part. It’s a real gas.

Valentine Limerick
By Tom Mulhern

There was a young damsel whose heart
Was pierced by Cupid's swift dart
She proceeded to engage
A man twice her age
Saying "I really do love the old ______."
(fill in your own term of endearment)

This next poem offers a more positive and hopeful outlook on the whole Valentine experience.

Cosmic Conjunction
By Tom Mulhern

If the stars properly align
Then I could be your Valentine
For when our hearts together get
That would be the best thing yet.

Let’s close out with another positive one. Say it from the heart, and bad grammar and colloquialism be, well, overlooked.

Druthers
By Tom Mulhern

Please know that I'd druther
Be with you than another
To be your Valentine
Would be simply divine.
