Funny Poems About Winter

Poems About Winter

Funny poems about winter that try to squeeze a little humor out of a cold, dark, and otherwise depressing season. Read on and cheer up.

Let’s face it, poems about winter have to work a little harder to amuse than your average poem. Here’s one that’s been given musical support, so you can listen as well as read.

That’s me on banjo and vocals. I recorded this before a live studio audience. That would be our Golden Retriever, Blanca. OK, she was asleep, but she was breathing.

Cold Weather Blues
By Tom Mulhern

The temperature is dropping and so is my mood
This change in the season affects my attitude
I just can’t help it, I got those cold weather blues

It’s dark and depressing, with my mind it’s messing
The weatherman is always wrong, I think he’s just guessing
He’s probably got a touch of those cold weather blues

My fingers are frozen and my car won’t start
Slipping and a sliding and I’m falling apart
The wind is blowing Oh it cuts right through
I can’t stand it but what can I do?

Two pair of pants, three shirts and a sweater
I’d put on more clothes, but what would it matter?
I just can’t hide from these cold weather blues

My kids can’t feel it they wear shorts to school
My wife is menopausal, she’s got her own fuel
I’m all alone with these cold weather blues

My fingers are frozen and my car won’t start
Slipping and a sliding and I’m falling apart
The wind is blowing Oh it cuts right through
I can’t stand it but what can I do?

They say to live in Kansas you’ve got to be tough
But I say global warming can’t come soon enough
Maybe it’ll melt away these cold weather blues

One of these days the sun’s gonna shine
Spring will come back and we’ll all feel fine
We’ll be warm and we’ll be happy and we won’t have the cold weather blues.

Winter season poems should celebrate that most common and widespread response to the onset of cold weather: escapist fantasy.

Almost Like Being There
By Tom Mulhern

Another winter season
And I'd like one good reason
Why I should stay here freezin'?

It seems colder to me
Than it used to be
And there's someplace that I'd rather see

It's a warm sunny beach
With a daiquiri of peach
Far away from winter's cold reach

But my family dear
And my chosen career
For the moment mean I must stay here

So I'll dream of a place
With the sun on my face
And the cold thoughts of winter erase.
