Who Is This Guy, Anyway?
My name is Tom Mulhern and I am the mastermind behind Real-Funny-Poems.com. OK, “mastermind” is probably stretching it, but I am the guy who wrote all those poems that say “By Tom Mulhern,” and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Most of the time.
My interest in poetry started when I was a kid, growing up in a small town in Kansas. We had a big book that was several hundred pages long and loaded with all kinds of poems. As I recall, I was the only one in the family who liked reading this book (an early sign that my parents either missed or thought I would outgrow).
And what I really liked were the funny poems, particularly the “Little Willie” poems. Here’s one that I loved then and now:

That is the standard of poetic excellence to which I aspire.
I’d like to be able to tell you that I’ve been churning out funny poems ever since that youthful inspiration, but that’s not how it went. You see, funny poems were not helpful in the classroom, on the basketball court, or in any of the other places I’ve spent the past several decades. I kept all these verses inside, except for an occasional birthday greeting or song lyric.
But recently, I started writing down some of these poems. The more I write down, the more there are clamoring to get on the page. Better out than in, as they say.
Also, by putting my poems on this website, I can share them with you and the rest of the world. Not that you or the world asked for these poems, but here they are nonetheless.
May you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.
