Funny 50th Anniversary Poems

50th Anniversary Poems

Funny 50th anniversary poems because, in addition to love and commitment, it takes a sense of humor to make it fifty years together. Compatibility doesn’t hurt, either.

Here’s a poem that points out the importance of taking care of all the important technical details at the outset of a marriage.

Check The Fine Print
By Tom Mulhern

We don't mean to be thoughtless, unkind or rude
But we checked and your marriage license has never been renewed
It's fifty years old and way out of date
That's fifty years of late fees you now owe the state

It'll cost you a bundle and smear your good name
But before you start looking for someone to blame
Check the fine print because you may have been clever
And got the marriage license that's valid forever

If that's what you did, all those 50 years past
Then you made the right bet on a marriage meant to last.

50th anniversary poems should celebrate some of the higher values that this milestone represents. This poemlet does.

Faithful and Strong
By Tom Mulhern

Faithful and strong, steady and true
Fifty years gone and still runs like new
With hard work and laughter our family it grew
So faithful and strong, steady and true.

Anniversary celebrations tend to emphasize the strength and durability of the marriage, as in the previous poem. However, not as much attention is paid to the precariousness with which most marriages get started.

Reckless Decision
By Tom Mulhern

Fifty years ago today, youthful hormones overcame
The voices of reason, and newly married you became

Had you listened back then to those who were urging
Greater caution, then we wouldn't now be splurging

With this great food and drink, laughter and tears
This celebration of being together for fifty years

In fact, had you not decided better judgment to resist
Many of us here today would not even exist

So thank you for giving this family its start
When you made that decision to follow your heart.

Fifty years is a long time to be married but, as the following poem points out, it’s not the whole time.

Fifty and Counting
By Tom Mulhern

You've been married for fifty years
We hope that you've had more laughter than tears
More good times than those that are bad
More happy memories than the kind that are sad

And if there is something you wish you could change
Some part of your marriage you might rearrange
Well then you're in luck, and here's the reason why
You're not finished yet, so give it a try.
